I am just a mom. But I should back up! I am first a follower of Jesus, and second a mom. A mom with a heavy burden to awaken the world to the existence and peril of waiting human embryos. A person who LOVES embryo adoption. A woman just anxious and excited to see how the Word of God will change our world.
I am here to bring Biblical clarity to one of the most pertinent emerging human rights crises of our day. And to equip myself and others to make a difference in our world.
An adoptive mom
On a more personal level, I am here because my children deserve to live in a world where their lives are protected and honored. They were, at one time, invisible to me; impossible to see with the naked eye. Now, thriving children who compel me to do better on their behalf. Their very existence demands the world acknowledge them as tiny image bearers of God, at every stage.
This is my story
The Devil’s had his day with my family, killing, stealing and destroying like our lives were his playground. My husband and I have lived through cancer, infertility, and the loss of our first little one through embryo adoption.
Tangled knots are the best way I can describe the fabric of our lives back then. Now that I’m a little down the road, I see the beautiful handiwork of God on the flip side. Restoration and redemption were craftily woven in and through all of the pain. Embryo adoption was a huge part of His hope and future for us.
This is the hope that I want to share with you–He binds our wounds. He heals our hearts. And he sets the lonely in families.
There were certainly times when I wondered how He was going to use what the enemy meant for evil. But lemme just say, you don’t know the meaning of the word awesome until you’ve experienced Him. He is an AWESOME God.
A witness to a developing human rights crisis
I don’t have it all figured out. But I have never been more convicted that this is my “next right thing” to do.
Juliette Hayes’ says it well in her article on embryo adoption for Focus on the Family:
“President Trump’s order to make IVF more affordable has reignited discussions on ethical alternatives, with pro-life organizations presenting policy recommendations.”
As infertility skyrockets and embryonic storage explodes into the millions, we have a lot to consider! And so, here I am, so EXCITED and honored that you would devote time to these issues as well.
You probably have a million other irons in the fire, like me. My days have never seemed shorter as a mom of a grabby, snuggly, 4-month-old (affectionately nicknamed Mr. Brown.) Enter, our artistic 8-year-old Sister (who daily reminds me of her Declaration-of-Independence-length list of aspirations) and I am working on time I didn’t know I had! (Sleep is overrated.)
I need you!
My friend, time is not their ally. For their sake, it has never been more imperative that we arm ourselves with truth and wisdom in the realms of rapidly advancing fertility practices.
We may not see their faces, but they are no less worthy of life and love than any of us.
I aim to be the advocate I would hope to have, were I in their place. I hope you will join me as we equip ourselves to be clear communicators and gentle encouragers. It’s a beautiful thing to represent Jesus’ hope and love in a rapidly advancing world of medical interventions.
The world needs us to be doers, not just hearers of the word! Let’s find tangible ways of living James 1:22 in our lives. Consider how we can actively apply what we know to be true, and please share your ideas with us!
If God’s thoughts toward them outnumber the grains of sand, then so shall mine! (Psalm 139:16-17) Will you join me?
